To facilitate the entry, exit, and long-term stay of foreign investors in Vietnam, the Vietnamese government has granted investment visas to these individuals with many outstanding advantages.

What is an Investment Visa?

An investment visa, also known as an investment visa, is a legal document issued by the Immigration Department to foreign investors or representatives of foreign organizations who invest in or contribute capital to establish or participate in a business or company in Vietnam.

Types of Investment Visas & Conditions for Issuance of Investment Visa 

  • Visa ĐT1 – Valid for up to 10 years – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of 100 billion VND or more, or investing in sectors, industries, or areas eligible for investment incentives as specified by the government.
  • Visa ĐT2 – Valid for up to 5 years – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution between 50 billion VND and under 100 billion VND, or investing in sectors, industries, or areas eligible for investment incentives as specified by the government.
  • Visa ĐT3 – Valid for up to 3 years – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution from 3 billion VND to under 50 billion VND.
  • Visa ĐT4 – Valid for up to 12 months – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution under 3 billion VND.

Conditions for Applying for an Investment Visa in Vietnam

  • Provide documents proving investor status (investment registration certificate, business registration certificate, etc.).
  • Must not fall under the cases of being prohibited from entry or required to exit Vietnam.

Dossier for Applying for an Investment Visa for Foreign Investors

  • Application form for an investment visa (Form NA5 under Circular No. 04/2015/TT-BCA – completed by the foreigner).
  • A document introducing the signature sample and seal of the sponsoring company (Form NA16 under Circular No. 04/2015/TT-BCA – signed and sealed by the company representative).
  • A document requesting the issuance of a temporary residence card (Form NA6 under Circular No. 04/2015/TT-BCA – signed and sealed by the company representative).
  • A certified copy showing the investor’s capital contribution, such as: business registration certificate for a single-member LLC, a multi-member LLC, or a certificate of capital contribution in a joint-stock company.
  • 2 passport-sized photos (2×3 cm).
  • Original passport.
  • Documents proving that the foreigner has registered temporary residence.

Procedures for Applying for an Investment Visa for Foreigners
For Foreign Investors Currently Abroad

Step 1: Apply for an Entry Approval Letter under Investment Category

The company where the foreign investor contributes capital/invests will prepare a dossier for the investment visa application, which includes:

  • A certified copy of the business registration certificate (DKKD) or investment certificate or a decision from the competent authority regarding the establishment of the organization.
  • A document introducing the seal and signature of the authorized representative of the company (Form NA16).
  • A photocopy of the foreign investor’s passport.
  • A notarized copy of the investment certificate.
  • A sponsorship letter (Form NA2 with barcode, to be completed here).

Afterwards, the sponsoring company’s representative will submit the dossier at one of the following locations:

  • Immigration Department in Hanoi: 46 Tran Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi
  • Immigration Department in Ho Chi Minh City: 337 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Immigration Department in Da Nang: 78 Le Loi Street, Thach Thang, Hai Chau District, Da Nang

After submitting the dossier, the applicant will receive a receipt (as known as notice). The applicant will need to wait approximately 5 working days for the immigration department to process the application.

Finally, the Immigration Department will issue an Entry Approval Letter for Vietnam.

At this point, the sponsoring company will scan the entire approval letter and send it to the foreign investor, so the investor can affix the ĐT visa stamp for entry into Vietnam.

Step 2: Affix the Investment Visa for Vietnam

After receiving the entry approval letter, the foreign investor will need to prepare the following:

  • The original passport with at least 2 blank pages and a valid expiration date (the same passport used for applying for the entry approval letter).
  • 2 passport-sized photos (4×6 cm) with a white background.
  • A printed copy of all pages of the entry approval letter.
  • The entry-exit application form for Vietnam.

Then, depending on the location for obtaining the Vietnamese family visa, the foreigner will bring the documents to:

  • The Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate where it has been registered.
  • The registered border gate in Vietnam to affix the investment visa and complete the entry procedures for Vietnam under the investment category.

For Foreign Investors Currently in Vietnam

Step 1: Prepare the Dossier

The sponsoring company for the foreign investor applying for the ĐT visa in Vietnam will prepare the following documents:

  • A certified copy of the business registration certificate (ĐKKD) or investment certificate or a decision from the competent authority regarding the establishment of the organization.
  • A document introducing the seal and signature of the authorized representative of the company (Form NA16).
  • A notarized copy of the investment certificate.
  • The original passport of the foreign investor and a valid visa/temporary residence card.
  • The visa application form for extending or renewing the temporary residence card for foreigners in Vietnam (Form NA5).
  • A temporary residence registration form as per the regulations (See instructions for registering temporary residence for foreigners in Vietnam).

Afterwards, the sponsoring company’s representative will submit the dossier to:

  • Immigration Department in Hanoi
  • Immigration Department in Ho Chi Minh City
  • Immigration Department in Da Nang

The applicant will then receive a receipt with the date to collect the result.

Step 2: Receive the Result

On the scheduled date, the company’s representative will bring the receipt to the submission location to collect the investment visa result.

From that point, the foreign investor will be allowed to stay in Vietnam under the investment visa category.

Visa Investment Fee for Foreigners in Vietnam

According to Circular 25/2021/BTC, which stipulates the fees for issuing new investment visas for foreigners:

  • Single-entry ĐT visa: Visa affixation fee is 25 USD per visa.
  • ĐT visa valid for 3 months (multiple entries): Visa affixation fee is 50 USD per visa.
  • ĐT visa valid for 3–6 months (multiple entries): Visa affixation fee is 95 USD per visa.
  • ĐT visa valid for 6 months to 1 year (multiple entries): Visa affixation fee is 135 USD per visa.
