- Having a passport or international travel document with at least 6 months of validity remaining.
- Being sponsored by a travel agency operating in Vietnam, except for cases such as: issuance of an electronic visa based on the foreigner’s or the agency’s request; issuance of a visa for certain cases where sponsorship is provided within the host country.
- Not being subject to any entry restrictions.
Tourist visa fees
The latest visa fee schedule for tourist visas in 2023:
- For a single-entry tourist visa: 25 USD
- For a multiple-entry tourist visa (DL): 50 USD
Validity of tourist visas
The validity of a tourist visa is no more than 90 days. Typically, the DL visa is valid for 30 days, particularly for visas issued by authorized agencies abroad or at the border gates. In the case where tourists are already in Vietnam and wish to stay longer, they can apply for a new visa at the immigration office. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic, DL visas have not been eligible for extension.
Procedures for applying for a tourist visa
Step 1: Notify the immigration authority
Before applying for a DL visa, the travel agency must send a notification to the immigration authority, accompanied by the following documents:
- A certified copy of the business establishment license
- A letter introducing the seal and signature of the legal representative
Within 5 working days from the receipt of the request letter, the immigration authority will review, resolve, and notify the relevant Vietnamese visa-issuing authorities abroad.
Once the travel agency receives the response, they will inform the foreigner to proceed with the visa application at the Vietnamese visa-issuing authority abroad, or to collect the visa upon arrival at a border gate or airport in Vietnam.
Step 2: Submit the visa application documents
The required documents include:
- Application form and request for a tourist visa
- Original passport of the foreigner applying for the visa
- Introduction letter from the travel agency assigning someone to handle the procedure
- Detailed itinerary or travel program
- Business travel license of the travel agency
The travel agency organizing the tour for foreigners directly submits the application to one of the two Immigration Management Departments:
- 44-46 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi
- 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Step 3: Pay the fee and receive the result
The person picking up the result must present the receipt, identity card/citizen identification, or passport for the officer to verify. If the result is available, the person must pay the fee and sign for receipt.
Step 4: Visa pickup procedures
Foreigners can receive their tourist visa through one of the following methods:
- At the international border gate
- At the Vietnamese visa-issuing authority abroad (Vietnam Embassy/Consulate)
- At the Immigration Management Department or an authorized agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Additionally, foreigners can now easily apply for a visa online by visiting the Vietnam Immigration Department’s website to complete the registration process. They need to fill out all required documents and information, then pay the fee as per the regulations. The Immigration Department will issue the result online.
