Regional minimum wage in 2024

Regional minimum wage in 2024

The regional minimum wage plays a crucial role in protecting the rights and interests of workers, while also impacting businesses and the economy as a means to maintain fairness and stability in labor and social relations.

In Vietnam, the minimum wage is the lowest wage paid to workers performing the simplest tasks under normal working conditions to ensure the minimum living standards of workers and their families, in line with the conditions of economic and social development.

What is the minimum wage?

The minimum wage is a minimum threshold for how much a worker must receive for a fixed period of time, set by the state. The main objective of the minimum wage is to ensure that workers are not subjected to too low wages, thereby ensuring a basic and fair standard of living in industrial relations.

The minimum wage is generally applied to all occupations and types of work, and it can be adjusted to each specific region or industry to reflect disparities in the cost of living and economic conditions. Minimum wage regulations may also include various sub-provisions such as working hours, social insurance, and other benefits for workers.

Regional minimum wage regulations 2024 to know

Currently, the minimum wage is clearly stipulated by law on the monthly minimum wage and the minimum hourly wage, in which:

  • The monthly minimum wage is the minimum amount a worker must receive in a month of full-hour work, according to state regulations. This salary is used as a basis for the Employee and the Employer to negotiate and pay wages to employees applying the monthly salary payment method.
  • The hourly minimum wage is the minimum amount a worker must receive for each hour worked, according to state regulations. The objective of the minimum wage is to protect the rights and interests of workers, while ensuring that they receive a basic and fair standard of living in the working environment. This salary is used as a basis for the Employee and the Employer to negotiate and pay wages to employees applying the form of hourly payment.

The current regulations on monthly minimum wage and minimum hourly wage for employees working for employers by region in 2024 are as follows:

Region Regional minimum wage/month

(Unit: VND/month)

Regional minimum wage per hour

(Unit: copper/hour)

Region I 4.680.000 22.500
Region II 4.160.000 20.000
Region III 3.640.000 17.500
Region IV 3.250.000 15.600

For persons who are paid weekly/daily/product/stock salary, the salary of these forms of payment, if converted monthly or hourly, must not be lower than the monthly minimum wage or the minimum hourly wage. The method of redemption is as follows:

Monthly salary = (Weekly salary x 52 weeks)/12 months
= Daily salary x number of normal working days in the month
= product-based wages during normal working hours of the month
= Salary realized during normal working hours of the month
Hourly rate = Weekly wage/normal working hours in the week
= Daily wage/normal number of hours worked during the day
= Product-based salary, stock salary divided by the number of hours worked during normal working hours to produce products or perform assigned tasks
