Chinese nationals eligible for visa extension in Vietnam include the following:

  • Chinese investors;
  • Chinese citizens entering Vietnam for family visits or tourism;
  • Chinese lawyers licensed to practice by the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam;
  • Chinese citizens holding a work permit in Vietnam;
  • Heads of representative offices of international organizations or non-governmental organizations;
  • Chinese executives, managers, technical workers, and experts.

Duration of Visa Extension for Chinese Nationals

The extension period varies depending on the type of visa held by the Chinese national, including:

  • One-month single-entry visa extension;
  • Three-month single or multiple-entry visa extension;
  • Six-month multiple-entry visa extension;
  • One-year multiple-entry visa extension.

Procedure for Visa Extension for Chinese Nationals in Vietnam

Step 1: Prepare the required documents for visa extension for Chinese nationals

To carry out the visa extension procedure for Chinese nationals in Vietnam, the necessary documents include:

  • Visa extension application form for Chinese nationals (Form NA5);
  • Sponsorship documents from the relevant agency or organization in Vietnam;
  • Original passport with a minimum validity of 6 months;
  • Temporary residence registration (if applicable);
  • 4×6 cm photo;
  • Work permit, investment certificate, proof of relationship with the sponsor, business registration certificate, etc., depending on the specific case and visa type for the Chinese national.

Step 2: Submit the visa extension application and pay the fee

After preparing the required documents, the Chinese national submits the application at one of the following locations:

Submit visa extension application in Hanoi:

  • Immigration Department: 44 Tran Phu Street, Dien Bien Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi (Applications can be submitted by individuals from Quang Nam and the northern regions).
  • Immigration Department of Hanoi Police: 44 Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Dong Da District, Hanoi, or 6 Tran Phu Street, Ha Dong, Hanoi, for cases in Hanoi.

Submit visa extension application in Ho Chi Minh City:

  • Immigration Department – Southern Office: 333 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (Applications can be submitted by individuals from the southern provinces, Central Highlands, and South Central Vietnam).
  • Immigration Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police: 196 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, Ward 6, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.

Submit visa extension application in other provinces and cities: Submit to the Immigration Department of the provincial or city police where the Chinese national resides temporarily.

Currently, the visa fees for Chinese nationals are regulated by Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC as follows:

  • Single-entry visa: 25 USD per visa
  • Multiple-entry visa:
    • Valid for up to 3 months: 50 USD per visa
    • Valid for more than 3 months to 6 months: 95 USD per visa
    • Valid for more than 6 months to 12 months: 135 USD per visa
    • Valid for more than 12 months to 2 years: 145 USD per visa
    • Valid for more than 2 years to 5 years: 155 USD per visa
  • Visa for individuals under 14 years old (regardless of validity period): 25 USD per visa

Step 3: Processing the Application

Upon submitting the visa extension application for Chinese nationals, you will receive an appointment notice specifying the processing time and the location for picking up the result.

The processing time for a Chinese nationals visa extension application is from 5 to 7 working days from the date of receiving the complete and valid application.

 

Notes for Visa Extension for Chinese Nationals in Vietnam

Here are some common mistakes that may lead to the rejection of a visa extension application for Chinese nationals:

  • Submitting the visa extension application too late. It is recommended to submit the application at least 3 days before the visa expiration date.
  • Providing inaccurate or misleading information.
  • The purpose of entry for the Chinese national differs from the purpose stated in the initial visa application.
  • Submitting counterfeit documents.
  • Failing to provide complete information regarding the sponsor, personal details, or workplace of the Chinese national.
  • Not following the correct procedure during the application process.
